Advanced Modeling of DG Impacts on Distribution Systems
Posted on
November 28, 2008
CYME is enhancing its CYMDIST software in a significant way to help the power engineers evaluate the impact of Distributed Generation on the operation and planning of their distribution systems. Already, static models are available in the current version of CYMDIST. Dynamic models are being introduced in the upcoming version 5.0 along with control functions and protection systems. CYMDIST will allow you to model all types of DG including all electronically coupled DG such as wind turbines (synchronous or induction), gas turbine (high speed), energy storage, photovoltaic, etc. It also features tools for islanded systems simulation (islanding capability) and the ability to reduce the network (network reduction) to better see the impact of DG.

Arc Flash Simulations on your Distribution Network
Posted on
September 26, 2008
The new CYME Arc Flash module has just been released. It provides utility distribution engineers with the most advanced tools to perform arc flash simulations safety assessments. This complete Arc Flash simulation module allows you to evaluate the safety risk on virtually any part of your network and assists in determining the adequate protection for the workers working around energized lines. To account for the differences in distribution networks, and since distribution network base voltages ranges from 1 kV to 46 kV with a majority of open air equipment, CYME has introduced two new algorithms. One is based on NESC-2007 and the other one is based on heat flux calculations. These new methods are based on line-ground faults which represent about 80% of the faults occurring on a distribution system. You can parametrize your analysis for any point (or set of points) on your network.

Better Tools to Assess the Impact of Distributed Generation on your Electrical Network
Posted on
May 30, 2006
CYME has recently enhanced the functionality of its distribution analysis software CYMDIST in a significant way. The new release of CYMDIST features several improvements and functions including new DG models to investigate and simulate the impact of various types of DG on the distribution network.
These enhancements were implemented in CYMDIST as part of a project of Natural Resources Canada ( CANMET Energy Technology Centre) that funded part of the development of the new models and functions. The project was complemented with the production of case studies to demonstrate the application to typical benefits/problems associated with the integration of DG and the impact of implementing distributed generation sources of different technologies, in a typical distribution circuit. The complete report for these case studies will be made available on Natural Resources Canada web site at a later date.
