The Great Success of the CYME Users Group

July 8, 2005

With close to 100 participants, the 2005 CYME Users Group was a great success and easily our best conference ever. CYME thanks each of the attendees and the speakers involved in the various activities and presentations of the CYMDIST-CYMTCC Users Group, the CYMCAP Users Group and the Introduction to Distributed Generation Seminar.

The core of the conference was the official announcement of the upcoming release of CYMDIST 4.5. CYME demonstrated its new capabilities, along with the latest updates to the CYMTCC application. "It is evident you are focused on making, and keeping, the analysis software in the forefront and an industry leader that all other vendors are trying to follow", says Dennis Morton of Duke Energy, a CYMDIST user since 1995.

Earlier this year, the CYME US Regional Users and a group of Southeast US Cooperatives met, and their issues and ideas, along with the ones from other CYME customers were shared in an open forum for the benefit of all. Participants were able to ask questions to the CYME managing personnel and get immediate answers.

The program was complemented by presentations addressing issues of interest to the users. In particular, Charles Hanson of NB Power gave us a very interesting presentation that covered the complex issue of GIS integration, and of how the NB Power/CYME team reached the objectives of the integration project.

The technical classes held on the third day included the always-popular refresher courses and hands-on presentations of the new features of both CYMDIST and CYMTCC.

This year, a conference dedicated to the CYMCAP cable ampacity software, and a one-day seminar on distributed generation enhanced the usual program of the CYME Users Group.

The CYMCAP program featured technical presentations and training sessions most meaningful to both beginners and advanced users of CYMCAP. CYME also demonstrated the features of the newest version 4.1 of CYMCAP scheduled to be released next August.

Dr. Mostafa Marei of the University of Waterloo, Ontario, gave us a great description of the current status of Distributed Generation in power systems and updated us on their anticipated use in the future.

The success of this conference is an indication of the distinctive commitment made by CYME to customer support, and of the useful work achieved over this past year. Robert Eastham of National Grid says: "Keep up the good work. I find that it is one of the most useful conferences of this type that I attend."

CYME is looking forward to this coming year, and is pleased to announce that the first issue of its newsletter will be next September.
